I always heard of an old homestead out in Piney on one of the trails we always rode. We just never found it until today. There isn't much left standing. If these old foundations could talk, oh what stories they could tell.

Good shots once again. Wonder how years ago that was called home?

I have been to that exact old house place many times. Lots of old rock fences around there too. There are several more homesteads up the creek if you look enough and more south of the main road. You need to look around the Boyd Cemetery at the old headstones and across the road from it are some food plots and another old house place in the first one. That country is covered with old house places. If I was able to get with you and my memory did not get to fuzzy I could show you a lot more. Some are barely recognizable. I never see one that I do not wonder about the people who lived there and what happened to them.

There usually is a lot of buck sign up the road from where you took the pictures. There were several pigs too a few years ago and one or two elk.

All the critter sign is no more than 5 years ago some a lot more recent. I turkey hunt that country every spring and occasionally get around in there for other reasons.

I can't say for sure but back in the early 70's when I first came into this country a lot of the old houses were still there but rotting down. I have been told the depression moved most of the hill folks out and from the condition of the buildings in the 70's that seems about right. Some held on until the old folks died or could not work the place any longer.
If you want to find old homesteads all you have to do is ride the trails in late February and look for daffodils. Every homestead I have ever seen had daffodils. A lot of them are way off the trails and turkey hunting is a great way to find them. I even ran across an old CCC camp last spring a few miles north of these homesteads. That was interesting. Not far off a road but sort of hard to get to due to private land.

We camp above Boyd cemetery. We come across a lot of old rock fences while driving the trails. Very interesting place to explore. I was talking to some guys here that said there is an Indian burial ground somewhere here but wasn't quite sure where it was.

Never heard anything about an Indian burial site. Could be around just never heard of it. I have never found much worked flint in that general location but not to far away there is some. Just don't let the FS catch you picking any of it up.
Camping above Boyd Cemetery are you camping in that spot near the food plot on top the mtn? Lots of good looking hunting spots in that part of the world. Easy to see why ya'll decided to try there.

We were in a small campsite before the one next to the food plot. When it rains the tent is always sitting in water because of drainage in the one near the food plot. We hunt that area though. My son got a doe in a food plot up from that campsite. Always see good sign in that area. On the day we were gone, a guy said a nice 8-point crossed the road about 50 yrds or so past our camp. May have been the 6 point that hung around that area I saw last year. We decided to break camp and come on home. Will go out a few more times this week, but after Monday I will be having to stay off of my foot for a few days. Will be missing the last week, but should be good for the Christmas hunt and the last ML hunt.
