I am thinking about getting a new scope for my Ruger 7mm mag. I am looking to spend 250 to 650 dollars but would like to spend less then 500 dollars. And I would like to get a scope with a power over 14 because I shoot down a line that is 500  yards from my stand to the end. Thanks for all thoughts!

I would go a Nikon or Leupold in a 3-12x50 range. Good pair of Binocular too.

I have a Nikon Prostaff 3-12x50, I don't feel like there's enough power, but that's just me. Thanks again! :excited:

I've got a 3-15x42 Minox Z5 on my Ruger 77 .300WM, a 3-15x50 Minox Z5 on my Ruger #1 25/06, I've got 2 other 4.5-14x40 Minox Z3 on a couple of other rifles. The Z5's are over your price range and mine too, but I bought them off line at cameralandny.com when they run them on what they call "Open box specials". Supposed to be demo's from their store, but I've yet to buy one with a mark on it and they come with full warranties. Anyway I've got 5 Minox scopes, one spotting scope and a pair of their binoculars. I like them and they do stand behind them. I had a T/C Pro Hunter barrel in .300WM that I found out was way over bored and running no telling how high pressures. I had a Minox 3A scope on it with a DNZ one piece base and mount, the cross hairs in the scope broke along with the rings holding it on. Sent it back to them and not only did they send me a new one, they upgraded it to the 5A that on my model 77 .300WM now. Went from a $4-500 scope to a $1200-1400 scope. Minox is made by Leica.

Meopta is another really good brand you don't hear much about.

I am a Leupold user. American made. I have tried others and they are all gone somewhere else. I have antelope hunted using a 3X9 Leupold VXII and made a shot last time I went at a laser ranged 503 yards. I have other scopes with more power but don't consider it a necessity. Antelope hunting will show you what works at long range real quick.

I've never owned a Meopta , but from talking to the guys at Camera Land highly recommend them and I've read some good reviews on them. They are German made. I've got a 1-6 Vortex on an AR rifle that I really like, too. Only Vortex I own, but several friends of mine are sold on them.

This guy has some interesting reviews, hasn't been updated in a while, but a good read. http://opticsthoughts.com/

I had a Bushnell long ago. The optics looked good but it fogged when wet and the adjustments were erratic. Meopta has some good reviews but then a again internet reviews are only worth so much. I have never used them but most German made optics the reticles are to complex for me. A buddy has several Swarovski scopes and though far beyond my price range the reticles are complex and confusing. Great optics though.

At the risk of beating a dead horse I highly recommend Leupold. Lots of reasons why but I will give you my favorite. I used to go to a lot of guns shows and always kept an eye out for scope bargains. I would occasionally buy a beat up Leupold then send it back and have them fixed under the lifetime warranty at no cost. Try that with any other brand and see what happens.
Other makes claim something similar but I have tried to get repairs under their warranty and they have always wanted money. I actually threw a Pentax in the trash. They wanted more to get water out of it than it cost new.

I would have to agree I had an old Leupold 3x9 on a Belgium Browning 30.06 that was rugged as heck and never let me down. Until it was stolen :sob:

Recently got a Leupold vari x 6, 3-18 power with fire dot reticle. Putting it on a new Sako .270. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, love the Leupolds!
