A northwest wind flow aloft continues out of Canada, bringing cold air to Arkansas. It will also drive a weak storm system toward the region early Sunday. Scattered light snow is in the forecast, mainly north of Little Rock (Pulaski County). A stronger system and cold front will affect the state Monday night/Tuesday morning. Snow will be more widespread, and accumulating snow will be more likely

A weak upper level disturbance is moving across northern Arkansas at this time. This disturbance is producing some light snow and with temperatures being well below freezing, the snow is accumulating. We are thinking up to an inch to an inch and a half of snow will be possible across parts of northern Arkansas and as such, a winter weather advisory is in effect through mid afternoon for parts of north central Arkansas.

After a brief and slight warm up Monday, an arctic front is expected  to move through the state Monday evening and Monday night. Precipitation is expected to develop in the cold air behind this boundary and while it may start out as a brief period of rain or mixed precipitation over the far south,  it will change over to snow quickly. Just snow is expected elsewhere across the state.

The snow should begin over the north and northwest Monday afternoon and spread slowly south with time. The front does tap into some additional moisture once it reaches central and southern sections and heavier amounts of snow will be possible.

This will not be a major winter storm but with temperatures being very cold, some travel impacts are likely Monday night and Tuesday.  Snowfall amounts up to a half an inch will be possible across the north with one to one and a half inches across central and southern sections. Some areas of the south and southwest could see two inches of snow before the system departs early Tuesday.

in the wake of the front, arctic high pressure will build back in over the area with temperatures considerably below normal through the middle part of the week. Temperatures will begin to recover later in the week as the arctic high pressure moves out.

We had about an inch of snow a little before daylight. Mostly gone now.
