Walmart boosts pay and give $1000 bonuses a result of new tax bill:
http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/2018 ... n-why.html

Some of the other companies who have announced pay boosts and/or bonuses and increased investments as a result of the new Tax Bill are:

ATT: 200,000 of its employees, including union-represented and non-management workers, will be eligible for a $1,000 bonus. Will invest $1 billion more than expected in the U.S. in 2018 because of tax bill.

Boeing: Announced $300 million more in investments, with $100 million toward corporate giving including employee gift-match programs, $100 million toward workforce development, training and education and $100 million toward enhancing Boeing’s workplaces.

Comcast: Award $1,000 bonuses to more than 100,000 non-executive employees. Plans to spend more than $50 billion in the next five years on infrastructure investments that are expected to create "thousands of new direct and indirect jobs."

Fifth Third Bancorp: Raise the minimum hourly wage for all employees to $15 per hour and dispense $1,000 bonuses for more than 13,500 workers. Company says tax reform was directly responsible for the initiatives.

Jet Blue: Grant $1,000 to each of its 21,000 crewmembers, with the exception of its CEO and other executives.

Southwest Airlines: Awarded a $1,000 cash bonus to all of its full-time and part-time employees Jan. 8th. In addition, Southwest said it will donate $5 million toward charitable causes and partner with Boeing to modernize its fleet of planes.

US Bankcorp: Distributing $1,000 bonuses to roughly 60,000 of its employees and raising minimum wage for hourly workers to $15 per hour. The Minneapolis-based company is also donating $150 million to the U.S. Bank Foundation, upgrading health care packages for its employees and investing in better customer service capabilities, all linked to new tax bill.

Wells Fargo: Raise the minimum wage for its team members to $15 per hour and earmark $400 million for philanthropic initiatives in 2018. Some $100 million of that total will be committed to boosting small businesses, while $75 million will support neighborhood revitalization efforts, all as a result of tax bill.

Two sides to every coin. Many are taking advantage of tax cuts to bolster corporate big wigs retirement parachutes and salaries. Sams Club, after getting a 7.8 billion tax cut they are closing 250 stores, laying off 100,000 people And Executives Retiring To a life Luxury and Leisure. :surp:

Im looking forward to next month with the decrease to our federal withholdings. Trump is starting to do some things I really like but just when he starts to win me over he opens his mouth and something crazy comes out. :happy0035: The latest referring to African Countries as *hit-Hole countries :happy0035: Does he know Africa is the birthplace of mankind? Does he know Jesus was African? Jesus lived in Egypt, which is in Africa, as a young boy. His mother Mary was an Egyptian. And before man built the Suez Canal Israel was part of Africa.

Just out in the last few hours Sam's isn't closing Hundreds of stores its now down to 63 stores slated to close and thousands losing jobs. The internet is crazy with rumors never believe everything you read and just half of what you see :poundfloor:

Sam's is reporting they are closing a few of their stores in an effort to shift their business model more towards online shopping, using 10 of the newly closed stores as distribution centers for online sales. I have a feeling as time goes on that there will be a lot of companies closing big chunks of their brick and mortar stores in favor of online sales..... I don't understand Sam's philosophy though because Sam's sells in bulk which means large heavy shipping containers should mean cost prohibitive shipping fees for people and small businesses. The closing of their only 3 stores in Alaska really doesn't make any sense to me and will hurt that whole state because they not only served the people and small businesses in Fairbanks and Anchorage they supplied bulk food to every bush family and every mine and every village and every oil field in that humongous state. Those 3 Alaska stores should have been 3 of their most profitable stores anywhere on earth. But alas, after January 26 they will be no more.

As far as Trumps "shithole" comment is concerned, men of character in his position don't talk in those terms when the world is listening. And when people with no character like him do they should be called out for it. He owes a public apology not only to those countries but to the American people he represents. I like how he publicly chides countries who takes advantage of us but America should never be seen as a bullying or denigrating country in the eyes of the world because that will only drive countries into the arms of China and Russia, and common sense 101 says America cannot survive alone in today's world.

When we went to Alaska in 2012 we did our grocery shopping at Anchorage at a Wal Mart. While it was not a Sam's the shopping aisles were choked and many staples were gone. It was a Friday and locals told us later never grocery shop on a Friday up there as most of the rural folks hit town on Friday and since they only might come once a month they load up. I believe it. Bread, eggs and meat was all but gone. Closing stores does not seem to smart to me up there.

As far as Trumps comment. It is most likely true about those countries but he should have kept it to himself. I have never been to Africa but have traveled some in Mexico and Central America. When you see first hand the extreme poverty and conditions down there it is no wonder why they want to leave they just need to do so the right way. Then you also must ask why these countries cannot pull out of the depths of poverty. They have resources what is going on to prevent them using them to do so???

http://www.businessinsider.com/walmart- ... res-2018-1

Sam's is closing 63 stores, with a max of 11,000 folks effected. Bad, but not 250 stores and 110,000 people. Also, 10 of the affected stores will be turned into e-commerce distribution centers, and employees of those stores will have the opportunity to reapply for positions at those locations, a Walmart official said. Walmart expects total store growth of 280 in each of fiscal 2018 and fiscal 2019 years. As bad as up to 11,000 people maybe losing their jobs is, it's a very small fraction of the 2.1 million people employed by Walmart.
The only reason this made as big a headline as it did was because it was announced on the same day as they announced the bonus plans and pay increases, to make the company not look as good as the bonuses and pay increases would have alone. I'm not a huge fan of Walmart and stay out of their stores as much as possible just because I don't like big stores, crowds and the control a few businesses have on the total market , but the media piling on and blowing up everything they can to make the pay bonuses and increases look insignificant or miserly , just to show the Republican Tax Cut and businesses in a bad light is wrong. From this to Nancy Pelosi holding a news conference to say a $1000 bonus is just peanuts and won't make a difference to anyone. Just because $1000 is chump change to her, doesn't mean it is to everyday folks. If Trump came out in favor of air, evert Democrat would quit breathing.
And yes, his stupid comment was wrong and inappropriate. If he'd keep his mouth shut it would be a lot better, but I'll still take him, warts and all, over HC.

Sam you are right Trump with all his faults is head and shoulders above HC and her crime cartel.

I bet if you took a survey of working folks about a $1,000.00 bonus only a few idiots would turn it down.

No doubt there's good people in every country in the world... But America is not obligated to take in people from every country in the world on demand. And we shouldn't and we can't if we are to maintain our own identity and culture and not allow our country and way of life to collapse under the weight of so many immigrants who have absolutey nothing in common with us or our culture.

No one no matter what country they are from has a right to come here. No country should ever open their borders and let people from other countries change the very fabric of their lives and their culture no matter how good or how poor the immigrants might be. We already have too many poor unskilled people here for the very few Americans who pay taxes to adequately take care of. America is not a homeless shelter for the worlds poor. We are a sovereign country who should only take in immigrants as we need to. If we need orange pickers we should let the orange pickers in we need then don't let any more in. If we need more doctors we should let as many Doctors in as we need then don't let any more in. And we shouldn't let anyone in with them except immediate family members (wives, husbands, children). These immigrants should come from countries we've always had something in common with. So not one of them should be Muslim. Not one. Ever. For any reason. To do other wise is plain stupidity on our part. Lettin' Muslims into our country is like livin' with a grizzly bear "hoping" it won't ever maim or kill you when you know Grizzly bears maim and kill people, even each other, all the time all over the world. If we wanna help people when we can afford to help other peoples we should help them in their own countries and not bring them here to do it. But we should always without fail help our own people first.

Trump was right, those are indeed shithole countries who's governments steal from America and steal from their own people and do nothing to make their lives better. Instead they encourage them to go to America and send their money home where they can steal most of it for their own personal use.... They and others like them are indeed shithole countries, but they are smart shithole countries who take full advantage of the naivety of America's liberals who seem not to care about America and our sovereignty, and our history and culture and way of life, and are willing to allow peoples from other countries with completely different cultures, beliefs, and ideologies to flood into our country unabated and slowly steal our sovereignty, change our culture and values to theirs, and determine our future. Sad? No not sad, stupid!!!

We just differ on it. I understand we are a nation of immigrants, that is our culture, that is our fabric, to allow immigrants in doesn't change our culture it is a continuance of our very culture the way it has existed over two hundred years. Some want to wall us up, now THAT would change our culture, that would change the fabric of what our nation is and what it stands for, and will stand for for another two hundred plus years hopefully.

https://www.amazon.com/Nation-Immigrant ... 0061447544

The things you fear for this country are not being committed by the immigrants that come here, all the killings, all the violence, the rioting, the destruction, these are things that are being done by Americans, not first or second or third generation Americans, established Americans. Maybe a little dilution is what we need.
And I hope your not saying we should kill all the grizzly bears :poundfloor:

We are not a nation of immigrants. That's simply a talking point created by socialists and liberals. I, like most Americans, was born here and we are not immigrants. And letting immigrants in will definitely and completely change our culture and our values at some point if we continue letting them in in unlimited numbers from anyplace in the world like we're doing today. We should go back to letting immigrants come here in a controlled and regulated way in numbers and from places that will allow them to easily and productively melt into our economy and into our society like they did for 200 years before liberals raised their anti democracy illegal sanctuary city race baitin' heads and started allowing and encouraging unlimited immigration from anywhere across the globe for any reason including across our southern border that also allows unfettered access to tons upon tons of illegal drugs that is increasing our crime rate and incarcerating and killing untold numbers of our young. Our immigration system from top to bottom from birth hotels to sanctuary cities to easy immigration from countries full of terrorists is dragging America down and putting American families in harms way in their own country, and desperately needs a fix. But liberals say no to any common sense fix and seem to have a death wish for themselves and their country in these expensive and dangerous times we live in. And it's obvious they have no qualms about taking the rest of us with them. But we owe it to our country and to our families to do whatever it takes to make sure they don't prevail.

So come on over to the Light side before it's too late Hip.. :happy0035: Hillary or Ohprey will never be President so don't be stubborn and stick with the losing side and go down with them on their losing liberal ship. Come on over while you still have time and enjoy with us the victory of good ole common sense over the country and culture destroying anti democracy policies of socialists and liberals. Don't drink any more of Shummer's and Pelosi's or the media's dark side kool-aid. Come on over to the light side and kick back with a big ole glass of ice cold teaparty sweet tea and watch as America regains her common sense and the liberals death wish for America is relegated to the trash pile of history... :excited:

So much of what you say just isn't true at all, me thinks someone has been drinking the cool aid and its not me. Of course YOU are not an immigrant, I am not an immigrant but I am here because two brothers did immigrate from Prussia back in the 1700 on my dads side, and my great grandmother and father on my mom's side came over from Poland as recently as 1905. The fact that people came here from other Countries is not made up, just about everybody here has immigration in their family history we are indeed a country of immigrants. We do not let immigrants in in a uncontrolled unlimited way, where on earth did you get that from? Most that criticize our immigration policies seem to think its too restrictive, too long and drawn out of a process the way it is. Well the drug problem is taking care of itself, cartels are not making money, less drugs are coming across because of legalized issues here. Violent crime on the border is down double digits. You don't give those hard working border patrol guards any credit when you say illegals have unlimited unfettered access to come over. The reason we get immigrants from countries full of terrorists is because their country is full of terrorist :happy0035: They are looking for a safer better life for their families. I don't know anyone that isn't here because somewhere back in their family tree someone came here looking for a better, more prosperous life. I don't know any native Americans. It needs some tweaking, its needs some more oversite and it needs some stream lining also. Its ripe for abuse I will admit that. Our present 1st lady came first here on a tourist visa then abused the system and worked as a model and escort, she should have applied for a work visa in the first place. Then when she wanted citizenship someone with a lot of money stepped up and paid a lot of money to a lot of people and she was able to step in front of and bypass thousands who were waiting patiently and legally for their papers and background checks to go through. Just not right. Maybe people that are found to have come here with improper paperwork or false pretense should be deported, who knows, I think shes been punished enough already having to live with the jerk.
