That was a good presentation. They seem to have put some thought into the plan. The flow of information will be key. Look forward to the sample results. Should know something by May.

I think after watching the video... so far so good, even though we don't know at this point just how infected we are and how widespread it is in that area. But I was encouraged that other than lowering the population in the core area, G&F's initial response doesn't consist of a wholesale slaughter of deer in that whole area. Wider ranging Elk though, depending on the test results, could completely change their initial plans and really widen the core area and greatly expand the planned control zone. Only time will tell.

But to give credit where I think credit is due, I saw no hint watching the video that G&F is gonna have a knee jerk reaction to the discovery of CWD here in Arkansas. To me they sounded committed to follow the latest scientific evidence available, wherever it may take them, in their effort to slow the spread of CWD. But then again, only time will tell because I have no doubt they will be under a lot of pressure from a lot of different stakeholder groups to do this or to do that.

It is my understanding the test results will be back in about a week after sending them in. Any positive by the initial lab have to be confirmed at the USDA lab in Iowa.

The original Response plan was written in 2006 it has been updated by Cory Gray, and a couple others. I was initially worried that the plan had been allowed to lapse but I should have known that Cory, Ralph Meeker and Wes Wright would have been on top of it. These guys are good. They will be working hard for us.
