Heard 3 but nothin' ever fired up good. Just an occasional gobble here and there until around 10, but nothin' would answer my call. One gobbled somewhere down the ridge from me around 9 but I couldn't really judge him because of the wind. So I moved toward him all I dared to and sat down hopin' he'd gobble again. But he didn't, and never answered any of my callin'. Had a couple of 2 year old's walk up on me about an hour later though...... while I was twisted around tryin' to locate another one I thought I heard gobble in the wind somewhere or the other. No need explainin' how that deal turned out when I turned back around... :happy0035:

I think some of the birds where I was huntin' were wantin' to fire up a little, and some probably did, but the wind was really a hindrance this mornin', not to mention all that pollen in all that wind that kept me busy just tryin' to see and breathe... :yep:

The wind was a problem for me too. I heard three maybe a fourth one and got close enough to two to hear them drum. I had heard hens calling earlier and eventually they shut up and moved down the ridge.
Yep the pollen is thick.

I heard one gobble this morning. He was about 200 yards from me. That's was it. I got in my truck an went on to work. I will hear him in morning too. If I hit the hood on my work truck.

Heard one yesterday mornin' before flydown time. And that was it. The drizzle finally turned to drops around 10 so I decided to skedaddle off the mountain for dryer parts...

Was expecting better this mornin' with the better weather forecast. But I never heard a gobble, and only 2 crows...

I did hear one shot off in the distance this mornin' around 11. That made only 2 I've heard so far this season.

I heard one yesterday and he gobbled maybe a half dozen times before shutting up. Of course he was way down the mountain and I walked down there and back for practice. Did call up a jake that yelped at me while walking. I hoped he might drag along his big brother but he was alone. Since the season opened I have heard a total of 4 shots. I am not seeing any other hunters. A neighbor killed one not far from here Tuesday and he said it gobbled good. When he cleaned it was full of corn. :smack: No wonder it gobbled.

Heard one close enough to get to yesterday mornin'. But as I was lookin' around for a good place to set up on him I heard hens cluckin' and I knew things might not turn out like I wanted them to. And they didn't. I got a glimps of them movin' on down the ridge so I took off tryin' to get in front of them. I did but they never showed up, and he never gobbled again. That was the only gobblin' I heard yesterday. And for whatever reason, even the crows have been silent the last couple of hunts...

I got up to go try to get back on that same turkey again this mornin' but my ole worn out back refused to go with me. So here I sit at almost noon and I'm still sittin' here in my jammies in the middle of turkey season drinkin' coffee.. :smack:

I haven't had much luck either. Only have heard one turkey since season opened and that was Monday.. He only gobbled maybe 10 or 12 times and traveling down in the river bottom. By the time I crossed some sloughs and caught up to him (yep you guessed it) he shut up. :smack:

We're kinda handicapped this year because we have loggers cutting in the middle of our lease.

Well managed to kill one yesterday but he never gobbled. I just walked up on him and he stood around wondering what to do a little to long. Nine and half inch beard and 3/4 spurs. All I got are phone picture and that thing is a PIA to download.
This morning went to a place WAY up in the mountains walked down the mountain 45 minutes and we were on gobblers until 11:30. Got real close twice but never popped a cap. We heard maybe a half dozen different birds and who knows how many hens. Going back to same place tomorrow. Oh the walk back up the mountain took a tad longer than down. This old turkey hunter is getting worn to a nubbin.

The ticks are extremely plentiful.

Heard one start gobblin' in the dark at 6 this mornin' and he gobbled till 6:45, then shut up. I was half way up the mountain when I first heard him and it took me another 45 minutes to get on the same finger he was on. He gobbled twice more before I could get close enough to set up on him then he never gobbled again... I never heard any hens but I suspect they beat me to him. But even if they did he shoulda had the courtesy to at least acknowledged my call cause I walked a long way straight up this mornin' just to say good mornin' to that dude... :yep: Hunted till almost noon and never heard another bird...

I hunted yesterday and today. Yesterday covered six miles as GPS says and heard three whole gobbles and never worked a bird. I went to another place this morning heard three at 10 after 6 and got on one. After three setups and several close calls where I could hear him drumming he just moved off and quit gobbling.
The pollen up here is like I have never seen. When the wind blows at time it looks as thick as smoke in the air. My sinuses are total wrecks. We need a hard rain.

Ok a quick Turkey tale. I'm squirrel hunting at that walk in by Winona I spoke of. I'm taking a break sitting against a rock eating a ham sandwich. It's not turkey season. Turkey season is still two weeks away. Two big, I mean shopping cart size big Tom's walk by me and just look at me, like they know its not turkey season. I don't have a shell in my shotgun and I know I don't have a shell in my shotgun and I point it at them and they go from a casual walk to an all out sprint in a second. :happy0035: I wonder if a warden had been glassing me if he would have come and had a chat with me. I wonder if he would have believed I knew I had no shell in my gun and was just playing with em?
