I posts some updates under Hogs basketball but I guess they really are deserving of a thread of their own now. :happy0035:

The UALR Ladies have quietly ran off ten wins in a row, nobody in the Sunbelt seems to be able to hang with them. Nine of the last ten wins have been blowouts of 20 points are more. :th_yeah:

The next game is a biggie, in state rivals Arkansas State. This will pit the two best teams in the conference against each other.

UALR Women's Hoops Drops UT Arlington for 10th Straight Win

LITTLE ROCK – The UALR women's basketball team had a fight on its hands through 10 minutes. But in the final 10 minutes of the first half, the Trojans delivered a series of knockout punches.

UALR went on a 19-4 run to close the first half against UT Arlington and rode that lead to a 66-38 victory over the Mavericks at the Jack Stephens Center on Saturday afternoon. The win was the Trojans' 10th straight and kept the team perfect in Sun Belt Conference play

UALR (16-2, 9-0 Sun Belt) continued its impressive streak of 20-point conference victories while holding UT Arlington (9-9, 3-6) to their lowest point total of the season.

Shanity James led UALR in scoring for the second straight game with 17 points, and her eight rebounds was a team high for the third consecutive outing. James just missed her third straight double-double. Also reaching double-digit points for UALR was Taylor Gault with 13 and Keanna Keys with a season-high 12.

The Trojan victory continues the team's best-ever beginning to a year, as the team had never before won 16 games in its first 18 tries. The team has also won 19 straight conference wins at home 12 straight regular-season conference wins overall and three straight against UT Arlington.

The win was also the 350th in program history.

The Mavericks entered Saturday's game with the second-best defense in the conference, giving up only 58.6 points per league game. UTA showed its defensive skills early on, as UALR trailed for most of the first nine minutes before taking over for good.

But the Trojans came back on a sequence of nice plays by Keys, taking a lead for the first time in the game when she made two free throws, got a defensive and offensive rebound and then converted a layup. Keys' 4 quick points made it a 12-9 game midway through the half.

At the third media timeout, the Trojans led 15-12 on an Alexius Dawn 3-pointer, and two free throws from Kiera Clark right after the break made it a 17-12 game. James stole the ball on the Mavericks' next possession, and she raced down the court for a fast-break layup to make it a 7-0 UALR run.

The Mavericks ended the run with four straight points after that, cutting the Trojans' lead to 19-16 with 4:31 minutes to play in the period. But UALR would end the half in style, doubling its score in the last four minutes while allowing just 4 Mavericks points in that span.

Shanity James had 6 straight points to give the Trojans a 25-18 lead, and Clark got two free throws in before James added another layup. The Mavericks got frustrated after that, as Alyson Te'o was charged with an offensive foul and then earned a technical foul for arguing the call. Gault drained both technical free throws, and James added a layup to make it 33-18 with 90 seconds left in the half.

Two Keys free throws were nearly the end of UALR's scoring in the half and capped a 14-0 run, but Ka'Nesheia Cobbins – a senior –ended things on a high note by sinking a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, the first 3-pointer of her career.

UALR led 38-20 at the break behind 14 points from James and 8 by Keys. Also impressively, the Trojans had no turnovers in the first half and shot 12 of 13 from the free-throw line. UTA also became the seventh straight opponent that UALR held to 20 points or fewer in the first half.

Cobbins would finish the game leading UALR with five assists while James added three to break 100 for her career. She also had a game-high two blocks. Clark had 8 points in the contest to reach 800 in her career, and four different Trojans added five rebounds apiece (Cobbins, Clark, Gault, Keys).

Overall, UALR shot 41.5 percent from the field but held UT Arlington to just 32.6 percent shooting. The Mavericks committed 17 turnovers, and UALR got 17 points off of them.

After ending the first half on that exciting run, UALR continued to roll in the second half. The Trojans outscored the Mavericks by 10 points in the half, emptying the bench with four minutes to play as a victory was in hand. UALR led by as many as 32 points in the second half.

The Trojans were also impressive at the free-throw line, knocking down 19 of 22 shots while taking advantage of an aggressive UT Arlington defense. Gault moved up to second all-time at UALR in attempted free throws with five chances from the line.

The Trojans have a big game in store next, as they will travel to Jonesboro to take on Arkansas State on Thursday. UALR and Arkansas State, the top two teams in the Sun Belt, are on schedule for a 5:05 p.m. tipoff.

This will be a tough one, on the road, against a very good team. But these girls are tough :smiley1639: I sometimes wonder if you put these girls on the court against this years Trojan men, they might surprise them.

:sob:

JONESBORO – In a battle between the Sun Belt Conference's top two teams, UALR came up just short in a 70-69 loss against Arkansas State at the Convocation Center on Thursday night.
The Trojans (16-3, 9-1) lost their first league game while seeing their 10-game winning streak snapped by the Red Wolves (14-7, 9-2). Despite the loss, UALR remains on top of the league thanks to a one-game advantage in the loss column over A-State.

Thats ok, we will get them back, they have to come to our town Feb 19th. Things will be different at the Jack Stephens Center. We had a chance to win this, we missed a three pointer and a two pointer in the final 10 seconds. After the three, the shot clock wasn't reset. We got the rebound and the girl rushed her shot thinking she had to put it up, but she had 7 seconds to spare before the end of the game, she thought she had just a couple on the shot clock...wrong. bad break for us. The official manning the shot clock messed up and it costs us. I know, I know, excuses excuses :happy0035:

Lady Trojans Smothers Texas State for 70-43 Win. Taylor Gault led with 19, she had three three pointers and the first 11 points of the game before the first media time-out, I'm sure Texas was glad for that time-out she was gonna run away with the show :woohoo:

The ladies are ranked 2nd in the Nation in defense, nothing to sneeze at. In 2014–15, there are 351 schools playing men's basketball in 32 Division I basketball conferences. All of these schools also sponsor women's basketball except The Citadel and VMI, two military colleges that were all-male until the 1990s and remain overwhelmingly male today. That means 349 div I womens programs, the SunBelt is a div I conference. They don't get the credit they deserve, 2nd out of 349 teams is dang good. :appl:

UALR just walked all over Georgia Southern for their 22nd straight conference win at home. Taylor Gault was double teamed most the game and held to under 10 points. So Keanna Keys stepped up and dumped in 25 :happy0035: Shes a 6'1" forward from a little town in Mississippi with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Gault was held in check but she did score her 1800th point as a Trojan, a school record. We lead in the conference by 1 1/2 games over Arkansas State, they come into town Thursday night so we can extract our revenge on them, its payback time :happy0035:

These girls are playing great and you can see it on their faces, their smiles, they are having the time of their lives

The game just ended, this one had a bit of everything in it. Both teams bled. A very hard fought game, UALR pulls it out 63-61 over Arkansas State to even up the series and hang on to first place in the Sunbelt Conference.

The UALR Trojan Ladies have clinched the Conference Title, they can't be caught. Saturdays game against University of Texas @Arlington did it. Their nationally ranked defense held Texas to just 38 points, and held them scoreless the final 5:12 of the game. Looks like Arkansas State will take second place. Lady Trojans will be the #1 seed in the Sunbelt Tourniment facing off against the number 8 seed.
I know it would never happen but I wish these girls could play their schoolmates from Fayetteville, Lady Razorbacks are 19-11 this year. Lady Trojans 23-4.

Shanity James got hot this game, Trojans are well balanced, they all seem to share the spotlight  She's a StLouis girl.

The semi finals are this morning against Texas State, we won both meetings this year. UALR came out on top 65-45 and 70-43, but we can't take this team lightly, they have made the semis and playing good ball.

NEW ORLEANS – The UALR women’s basketball team left no doubt about its dominance over Texas State this season, defeating the Bobcats by at least 20 points for the third time this year on Friday afternoon.

The Trojans built their lead early in the half and cruised to an 87-44 victory over Texas State in the Sun Belt Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon at Lakefront Arena, clinching a spot in the league’s title game for the sixth time in school history and first time since 2013.

:appl:

We will probably play Arkansas State in the final, we lost to them on the road by one point and we beat them here at home by two points, the last battle here was a bloody one, a hard fought game, this should be a barn burner. Arkansas State still has to get by No. 6 seed Louisiana, to get the honor of playing our ladies again. But they should handle them. Never know though, this is in New Orleans :surp:

This is some tough playing, the little 5'4" guard from Texas, #10 Alexius Dawn has scored 13 points and UALR was up at the half 43-38. But just now at the start of the second Arkansas State has come on, its 47-46 UALR, this is for all the marbles.

Well this one was everything people thought it would be. Arkansas State brought their "A Game" to town but it wasn't enough. UALR wins it 78 -72 to top off a great season. Sunbelt Champions.

Stars of the game
Taylor Gault 21 points
Alexius Dawn 17 points

Gault led in scoring
Kaitlyn Pratt in rebounding
Kanesheia Cobbins in assists

I don't know how many girls are coming back next year, I hate to see it end. Good luck to the seniors that are moving on to have a real life in the real world.

Its not over yet, the Lady Trojans are invited to the NCAA tournament where they will showcase their nationally ranked defense

1 UConn 47.7
2 Wichita St. 50.3
3 UALR 50.4
4 Chattanooga 50.4
5 Princeton 50.9

Ended up ranked 3rd in defense, one tenth of a point behind Wichita State, thats some good company to be with, thats out of 349 womens teams as I mentioned above. Only the UCONN Huskies held the competition to under 50 points a game.

Almost forgot, we have played A&M 6 times in the past, we have won just one game and lost 5. But this is a different team  we may surprise them. It would be an upset if we won, A&M is favored.
