Channel 7 is reporting that four people were shot and one stabbed Tuesday in Little Rock, in three separate incidents.

Reminds me why Little Rock is not on my list of favorite destinations anymore...Living in a rural area for so long and no longer acclimated to high crime and high traffic, I don't know why I don't switch my shopping and medical city of preference to maybe Hot Springs, which like Little Rock is a little over an hour from my place. I guess it's because Hot Springs from here is through the mountains on a bad curvy road and the trip to Little Rock is mostly through low rolling hills on a wider safer highway for most of the trip... Conway is also just a hair over an hour away and a mostly flat trip on a good highway. But I've never checked to see if they have all the big box and specialty stores or not.... I may drive over that way one day before long and snoop around a little... :yep:

Conway is the choice of many people West of Little Rock. Conway offers many of the big box stores Have a Sports Academy, Dick's, Sams, Harbor freight. I don't know much about the women side. The only problem is traffic. It has out grown it's road system.

If I can't get it in Camden or El Dorado (which I can most everything) then I shop online. El Dorado is only 25 mins on a four lane and also has a wonderful medical center that handles everything...I don't go to Little Rock for ANY reason except to the airport.

I make a trip to LR every now an then. But, anywhere I go when I walk in or out. I check area and mood in store. Always aware is only way to be.

Since they opened the Sam's and Academy Sports in Conway, I do my best to never go to Little Rock again. I buy almost all my fishing gear online from tacklewarehouse.com. I also watch for clearance on Cabela's and Midway for shooting and hunting stuff. I've also got an Amazon Prime membership and have got the wife to shopping on there more, instead of dragging me to town. Anything to keep from going to the Rock. I haven't been to the Big Buck Classic in years, just because of where it's at.

I was brought up in a much more dangerous city than this. Was raised to speàk my mind, be bold, be fearless. Don't stay away you let the thugs win if you do that, just keep your wits about you, don't act like a victim and you won't be a victim. Wolves Prey on the weak, dont be weak, you know this stuff. :woohoo:

Hip, I don't go to Little Rock because I'm scared. Far from it! I've rode the dragon into the valley of death. There's no one in Little Rock that scares me.... I don't like Little Rock and never have because of the way they look down on the rest of the state (especially South Arkansas). They believe Little Rock should have everything and all roads must lead there.

I didn't know that but then I haven't lived here a real long time...hate to think people in one Part of the state look down on people from another, that's crazy and sad. But then we all know those foks up in the northwest part are all rich yuppie snobs :poundfloor: Im kidding

But the thugs in Little Rock have already won Hip because Little Rock has become a place that nobody in the rest of the state really wants to go to any more than is absolutely necessary because of the city's lack of will or inability to control them.... And the traffic? Well that's another highly contributing factor in my desire to avoid Little Rock these days as much as possible.... :yep:

Thugs are a part of hating LR, nothing like pulling a loaded stock trailer full of show steers and the truck full of kids that showed them through the back streets to get to the back gates at the state fair. Also after spending 3 or 4 nights on the grounds with the kids and cattle, I was always relieved and happy to leave. A close friend of mines wife and daughter we mugged and robbed getting out of their car at McCain Mall a few years ago. Twice I've backed down very possible attackers in LR, once in the parking lot of Pier One on University Ave. and the other time where we parked our trailers south of the Barton Coliseum, both at night, both times I was alone. Luckily I was carrying both times, although I wasn't supposed to be at the Fair Grounds (they didn't check us at the back gates when we would drive in pulling trailers), both times I moved a vest or coat back and put my hand on the pistol and they backed off. 3 guys in the first incident, 2 in the second. No doubt in my mind what they all were planning. I haven't been back to the fair since the kids quit showing because I'm not going to that part of town without a pistol on my belt, especially parking over across Asher and walking all the way to the gates, the Fair Ground is posted as Gun Free during the State Fair, so they've written me off as a customer.

Now days it's not so much the thugs, although I do think about them, as it is the traffic and crowds that turn me off. I can pretty much try and stay out of the worst parts of town, but you can't get away from the traffic and crowds.

I don't go to LR because it has to much of the things I do not like. People, traffic, crime, crowds and attitude. My wife was having to go there to see a specialist once a month for around a year. Long waits to see a doctor that acted like it was a favor to set your butt in his waiting room half a day. Nope don't need that anymore thank God.

Hip all you have to do to become a crime statistic is be in the wrong place at the wrong time. You can die with a attitude I suppose but fate rarely is selective. Thugs are winning down there and the cops are really just janitors cleaning up the mess afterward. My older brother has lived there his whole life and why he stays now that he is retired is beyond me. If I never set foot in that metro cesspool again I will be fine with that.

TG there is a nice airport at Bentonville and it is not named after the Arkansas crime family the Clintons. Long ways for you but most every big airport will get you gone. :happy0035:

Yeah I've flown in and out of northwest regional a few times when my kids were in Fayetteville. We would fly in and out of there going on trips. It's a nice airport! Like you said it's a long way for me... The only reason I use LR airport is I can be there in an hour and 35 mins.... Shreveport has a real nice airport and Texarkana has a nice little regional airport too.

BS.
Tell that to Lee Sobba, oh you cant because he is dead.
He told a bunch of shithead ghetto rats who decided to park on his property in Little Rock and crank the rap music up to leave and ended up with a bullet in his head. He was not a weak person.

I hate any town of any size. Too many people, too close together. However my wife and I have to go every 2-3 months for our diabetes specialist which El Dorado and all South Arkansas doesn't have. I try to avoid all Interstates in LR. Since all we do is in West LR, we go in on hwy 367 (Arch Street). Yes we go down Roosevelt and Asher to University. But we don't stop except for stop lights. We keep the doors locked and I always have a gun.

Stopping for red lights on Roosevelt and Asher is dangerous no matter how many guns you have. Just driving down Roosevelt or Asher is dangerous. You can take 167 to 530 then 630 straight into west Little Rock. But don't get to 530 or 630 during morning or afternoon rush hour. Go early to miss the afternoon traffic rush and go the day before to miss the morning rush. When I have a Little Rock appointment during morning rush hour I reserve a room at the Markam House on Markham street, located just off 630 at the University exit then a few blocks east on Markam behind St Vincent Hospital. They cater to out of towners and their families who come to little Rock for medical care. You can take sandwiches or whatever for supper in the room or there are a couple of places to eat next door. Rooms are nice and less than $100. It may even be a faster route for you with a whole lot less stops, plus it beats the crap out of driving through a sure nuff war zone with a loved one. I'd hate to ever have a flat or a traffic accident drivin' through the Little Rock hood... :th_smilie_help.gif:

We go to the Asian food store on University just about every trip. This past Wednesday, I went straight down University to 65th and took it to Arch st. We have also started coming in on 65th and getting on I30 to Bass Pro and the Shoppes when we first come in. My wife has a thing for La Quinta's so we stay at the one off South Shackleford on Crossings Court. Other than the LRDC at Baptist, we go to Barnes & Noble, maybe Petco or PetSmart or whatever that is next to B. & N. It's very rare that we go further east than University. We might go to the Farmers Market this year.

Dean's Food used to have a bottling plant just off Asher that the COOP I was a member of shipped a lot of milk to. The trucks would be in there at all hours delivering tanker loads of milk. The drivers said it was very common to be waiting to get unloaded and watch and/or hear running gun battles between cars going by on Asher. The only place they hated more was the Turner milk plant in downtown Memphis.
